NEPAL: Garment exporters worried about falling exports

KATHMANDU:  President of the Garment Association Nepal (GAN) said that
the government should ward off tariff and non-tariff barriers in the export of goods that have triggered the cost of doing business.

Kiran Shakha, President (GAN)  was speaking  while presenting a working paper.

Shakha also said that the industrialists were facing insecurity due to the existing labour policy, undoing bandh and road blockage.

Nepal needs to capitalise its amicable relation with United States through effective economic diplomacy, he added.

He also underlined the need for creating logo for Pashmina, carpet and other products to check aberrations.

Rameshor Khanal, secretary of Ministry of Finance (Revenue) said that the government is forming a policy to solve the problems being faced by the exporters. He said that there would be governance reform and one-window policy to control the mismanagement.

Quality conciousness is the key to get easy access to the international market said Purusottam Ojha, secretary of MoICS.  We also need to increase the productivity, he added.

Government needs to form a policy soon in order to avoid further losses to the sector, expected the exporters.
