PHILIPPINES: Rhett Eala revamps the Collezione brandMANILA: The Filipino brand Collezione was one of the very few brands that could withstand constant wear and tear without the tender, loving hand washing of a lavandera. Since Lacoste was not yet widely available in the 1970s and 1980s, Filipinos embraced Collezione as an equally stylish and less expensive alternative. In December 2006, Collezione signed up Rhett Eala as its new creative director. Eala has revamped the whole line and came up with Collezione C2, which the brand hopes will attract the younger set. Collezione C2 is only available in Collezione boutiques. Eala is known for up-to-the-minute designs that do not resort to being too trendy or flashy and the beautiful lines of his clothes, which are worn by celebrities, models and socialites. Many society brides got married in Rhett Eala creations. Eala’s designs are such that they would look good on a 20-year-old and her 45-year-old mother. His clothes never look dated or old-fashioned. They are always classic without being dowdy and elegant without making one look or feel old. Eala is excited that he is taking on a 34-year-old brand that offers mostly T-shirts. Although C2 is very different from Eala’s other collections, he considers his new job a great challenge. For C2, fabrics will be in 100-percent cotton, making the clothes easier to care for. The Rhett Eala Collection for Collezione C2 was presented in fashion show directed by Robbie Carmona at Crowne Plaza Hotel. Eala said C2 will keep Collezione’s signature pique sports shirts and classic tops with the key logo, which has been reworked, but fabrics and colors will definitely target a younger market.
