ISRAEL: Batliboi to Leverage its National Marketing Strength

When Kornit tied-up with Batliboi for distributing its direct digital garment printing machines in India, it was an ideal match for both the companies. For Batliboi, it was a natural extension to enter into digital printing solutions and both companies are complementing each other very well. This will benefi t the industry as prospective Kornit machine buyers can expect strong service support from Batliboi, which is essential for the success of such projects.

Batliboi Ltd. is the offi cial, distributor for Kornit direct digital textile printing machines in India. The company is the exclusive distributor for Western, Central & South India territory. Headquartered in Israel, Kornit Digital Ltd. is a dynamic, leading-edge company that develops, manufactures and markets state-of-the-art digital printers for the garment and apparel decorating industry. Founded by seasoned professionals with extensive experience in the digital printing industry and based on its proprietary ground-breaking technology, Kornit Digital introduces the Kornit line of high-speed digital inkjet printing machines, known to be the first Industrial Digital Printing machines which print Direct-On-Garment.

Founded in 1892, Batliboi Ltd. has grown to a position of leadership among engineering companies. The company has spearheaded technological change in all the activities comprising of textile air engineering, textile machinery, machine tools and air conditioning. Batliboi’s manufacturing facilities are located at Surat and Bangalore. Mr. Sandeep Mehta, Manager (Marketing), Batliboi Textile Machinery Group, Garment Machinery Division says, “We provides Pre & Post Sales services for products which cover a large portion of the textile manufacturing chain. The company provides solutions for Garmenting, Spinning, Knitting, Fabrics processing & fi nishing. Our profi le is more apt for servicing high value capital goods.

In general, garment machines are not perceived as high value capital goods, particularly sewing. As far as solutions for Garmenting are concerned, we are into all areas except sewing.” Commenting on the division’s various tie-ups, Mr. Mehta shares, “For Automated Cutting Room solutions we are representing the FKgroup from Italy. For value additions, we have a tie-up with TAS International, Australia, who are manufacturing carousel screen printing machines for T-Shirts. For Garment value addition by wet processing we have a tie-up with Tolkar -Smartex from Turkey. We have done several projects for clients such as Arvind, Raymond, Suryakiran, Shahi Exports, Gokaldas Exports and many more.”

Explaining the background behind the recent tie-up with Kornit, Mr. Mehta points out, “Since our forte is for providing solutions for value addition to garments and also because of our tie-up with TAS, it was a natural extension for us to enter into digital printing solutions. Kornit also has developed a digital printing station, which can be interfaced to automatic screen printing carousel. This hybrid combination brings the best of both the technologies and provides unparallel scope to the designers not hitherto possible. Above all, it’s the chemistry between Kornit and Batliboi. We complement each other well.”

Prospective investors who would want to invest in new technology can derive the benefi ts of strong service support from Batliboi, which is very essential for the ultimate success of
such projects. “We have booked orders for Kornit machines, and following participation in ITME ‘08 a number of orders are in pipe line. Importantly, we have also started providing service support to existing installations. This will go a long way to benefi t the present users of Kornit, and they can plan capacity expansion,” Mr. Mehta asserts. Indian exports of Knitwear had been adversely affected due rupee appreciation, followed by recent global meltdown.

To add to this there has been stiff competition from countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Pakistan … also what was China’s loss did not turn out to be India’s gain. “The strength of Indian manufacturer has always been good quality and design quotient which goes into the products as a differentiation vis-à-vis low priced products from competing countries. Now is the time for the Indian manufacturers to take this strength to higher level. This is possible with Kornit’s patented ink and digital printing, which helps create product differentiation by printing good quality high resolution prints with more number of colors and vibrancy at reasonable costs. With quick change over of designs, and from printing a single piece to medium and large production runs Kornit’s industrial digital printing proves to be a very profi table proposition. Specialised jobbing units focused on doing good quality job, and catering to not only the garment exporters but also to various brands, retailers and the players in fashion sector can derive maximum advantage. Thanks to Kornit, you can have increased market share and better yield especially important now … morethen- ever …” Mr. Mehta feels.
